Postini E-Mail Protection Service is an Anti-Spam and Anti-Virus
technology that Frankfort Plant Board (FPB) makes available to all of our
E-Mail customers free-of-charge! Postini filters your email before it gets
to your Inbox and holds suspicious email in your personal Message Center.
Postini provides each user with a
personal Message Center where your spam and viruses are filtered and quarantined. Your legitimate email messages are delivered to your email Inbox, just as
they always have, but junk and virus-infected email is routed to your
Message Center. You can also customize the service from within the Message
Center.

FPB's Port 25 (SMTP) Blocking Policy
Port 25 Blocking is enabled on all Residential accounts.
We want to alert you to an FPB policy that benefits all
customers (as well as the Internet community) but may require you to change one of your email software
settings. As you may know, one of the biggest inconveniences to all
Internet users is unwanted junk email, or "spam." That's why we have made
the Postini service available to all members free of charge. But in order
to combat the serious, ongoing problem of spam, FPB has instituted a
policy called "Port 25 blocking."
What is Port 25 Blocking?
Port 25 blocking will stop spammers from sending out huge waves of
unauthorized junk email by preventing email from being sent out through
any non-FPB mail servers. With Port 25 blocking, customers will only be
able to send mail through the FPB mail servers, thereby allowing us to
block spam sent out through our network.
Non-FPB E-Mail Accounts
Any FPB cable modem customer who has an email account that is not an FPB
account (@fewpb.net) may experience problems sending email. This
will occur if you are using your e-mail provider's outgoing (SMTP) mail servers. You will still be able to
receive email normally through these accounts, but in order to send email,
we need you to make a change for us (see below).
(You will still be able to send
and receive email from any Web-based mail system, such as Hotmail or
Yahoo! Mail, without
making any changes to your Web settings.)
Making Changes to your E-Mail Software
Option 1: (preferred)
Check with your e-mail provider to see if they implement an alternate SMTP
port for e-mail submission (for example, port 587 or port 2525).
They can inform you on the proper changes to make to your system.
Option 2:
In your email software, please change your outgoing (SMTP) mail server for
all non-FPB accounts to the Frankfort Plant Board mail server:
smtp.fewpb.net
This will have no impact on how your sent mail appears or on the ability
of people to reply to you at your email account. It simply allows
Frankfort Plant Board to ensure that spam is not being sent out through
our network.
