Pastor Marinas
was sitting in front of his church in the Philippines when a troubled young man
walked up to him and at a distance of six feet away pointed a .357 magnum
pistol at his face. Startled, Pastor
Marinas jumped up and said, “JESUS,” at the precise moment that the man pulled
the trigger. As Pastor Marinas said
“JESUS” he supernaturally caught the bullet in his teeth. Unbelievable? Only by the mighty hand of God
do we experience phenomenon such as this.
The gunman fired again. The bullet hit Brother Marinas in the left,
upper shoulder, but it miraculously bounced off and did not penetrate the
flesh, leaving only a bruise. The man
fired a third time at point blank range, hitting Brother Marinas in the upper
right shoulder. Again the bullet did
not penetrate but fell to the ground after striking him. Shots four and five misfired giving Brother
Marinas the essential few seconds that he needed to reach out and twist the
pistol from the man’s hand. Neighbors
who had heard the shots grabbed the assailant and dragged him to the police.
Brother Marinas decided to drop all
charges against the gunman because he said he had a family that would suffer
and he did not want that.
This article was in the World Harvest Today in April-June 1999. This article captured my eye when I saw the
pictures of the bullets. There are many
miracles like this one that has been performed by our mighty God by just
calling on his name. When you believe
that there is nothing Jesus can’t do, that is when you will see many, many
miracles. He says to call upon his
name. Proverbs 18:10 The name of the
Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.
So the next time your in trouble, what
name are you going to call upon?
Fun Fact:
On
this date in February 16th, 590 (or 600), Pope Gregory the Great
issued a papal decree stating that the proper response to a sneeze is "God
Bless You."
How To Keep Those New Year's Resolutions!
The Web site About.com offers
the following tips for making (and keeping) your
New Year's resolutions
Be realistic: The surest
way to fall short of your goal is to make your goal unattainable. For instance,
resolving to never eat your favorite desserts again could be a bad choice.
Strive for a goal that is attainable.
Plan ahead: Don't make
your resolution on New Year's Eve. If you wait until the last minute, it will
be based on your mind-set that particular day. Instead it should be
well planned before December 31 arrives.
Outline your
plan:
Decide how you will deal with the temptation to skip the exercise class, or
just have one more cigarette. This could include calling on a friend for help,
or practicing positive thinking and self-talk.
Make a
"pro" and "con" list: It may help to see a list of
items on paper to keep your
motivation strong. Develop this list over time, and ask others to contribute to
it. Keep
your list with you and refer to it when you need help keeping your resolve.
Talk about it: Don't keep
your resolution a secret. Tell friends and family members
who will be there to support your resolve to change yourself for the better.
The best
case scenario is to find yourself a buddy who shares your New Year's Resolution
and motivate each other.
Reward
Yourself:
This doesn't mean that if your resolution is to diet you can eat an entire box
of chocolates. Instead, celebrate your success by treating yourself to
something that you enjoy.
Track your progress: Keep track of each small success
you make toward reaching
your larger goal. Short-term goals are easier to keep, and small
accomplishments will
help keep you motivated.
Don't Beat
Yourself Up: Obsessing over the occasional slip won't help you achieve
your goal. Do the best you can each day, and take them one at a time.
Stick to it: Experts say
it takes about 21 days for a new activity, such as exercising,
to become a habit, and 6 months for it to become part of your personality.
Keep trying: If your resolution
has totally run out of steam by mid-February, don't
despair. Start over again! There's no reason you can't make a "New Year's
Resolution"
any time of year.
REMEMBER
If God brings
you to it, He will bring you through it.
Happy moments, praise God.
Difficult
moments, seek God.
Quiet moments,
worship God.
Painful
moments, trust God.
Every moment,
thank God.

A
BROKEN HEART
What
is a broken heart? There have people to
have heart problems, but what exactly is a broken heart. The dictionary says: Having the spirits depressed or
crushed by grief or despair; full of sorrow.
Have
you ever been broken-hearted? Has there
been something in your life that has hurt you, depressed or crushed you, or
have been so sorrowful that you just couldn’t make it or can get over. I have felt those feelings several times in
my life. There have been times I felt
that my heart just couldn’t make it anymore.
It hurt me so bad that I thought I was going to die.
My
husband and I had went through some rough situations with our children that
just about crushed us. There have been
times in my life of situations I have gone through in my marriage that I
thought I couldn’t go on.
Jesus
died of a broken heart. He knows how we
feel and he is always there to mend our heart.
What has broken your heart? Is
it a loved one who has passed away, a child who has strayed, a relationship
that has gone bad, a child that has moved far away or is it your health that
has gotten you down.
Always
remember that no matter how low, hurt, or depressed we feel we have a God who
is mighty and has our best interest in mind.
We might not know what we are going through right now, but he has a
plan. When that plan is ready to be
implemented, he will show us and we will be ready to put our best foot
forward. Give all your worries, sorrows
and fears to him for he cares for you.
Trust
Jesus with all you heart and you will see that light at the end of the
tunnel. Keep the faith and stay
faithful to him.
